Hotel Castel Gandolfo is a family run hotel and has stunning views of Lake Albano. The town of Castel Gandolfo is the summer residence of the Pope and the Hotel is located in historical centre of Castel Gandolfo, one street from the Pope's residence. It is a train ride to Rome for day trips (costs Euro 3.80 return and takes 45 minutes each way). There are wonderful restaurants and great scenery and walks around the lake. What really made our three night stay so wonderful was the delightful breakfasts and the attention to giving excellent service by everyone at this wonderful family run hotel.

The staff was incredibly friendly, the room squeaky clean and the breakfast just amazing(local produce). We are a couple and were looking for a romantic break away from the city fuss. We will never regret our choise as the Hotel was perfect to the purpose. A gem set in a fairy tale scenary. The room overlooking the Albano Lake and the quietness made our stay relaxing and fully enjoyable. The location is strategic if you mean to have a stroll around the "Castelli Romani" for a dive in the Roman Empire heritage(not to mention the amazing food scattered around). I would definetely recommend a stay at Hotel Castel Gandolfo if you are looking for high quality accomodation at a resonable price.

The Hotel Castel Gandolfo is a compact small modern hotel which was warm and welcoming and value for money. They provide a delight full breakfast of pastries, yoghurt, meats and cheeses, fruits etc. However, other meals can be obtained in a small restaurant underneath the hotel which looks over the Lake Albano. Bucca is the best local restaurant but beware it is closed on Wednesdays. They serve pastas etc of every type. The downside for my daughter was no swimming pool. For this hotel you need a car to explore the area as the village is very small and not a lot happening. However, the Pope's Palace is just across the square which is a site to see.

Good and clean hotel near Rome. Beautiful view of the Castel Gandolfo lake. Easy access to Rome dowtown. There is a train station near the hotel but is better if you have a car but parking is a little difficult because places are on the street and not in great quantity.
parking is not easy

We got upgraded to lake view free of charge. The hotel feels very cozy and small, the staff is very sincere and helpful, and you can feel that it is family run business. The breakfasts are nice and plentiful, nothing beats local cheese selection. The views from the room (all rooms on the lake side have balconies!) are excellent - you can see the lake and the Pope's residence.
Yes, you need to walk a steep path to get to the Castel Gandolfo town and as a consequence, of course, also to get to the hotel. But we actually enjoyed walking (also made a walking tour all around the lake). The hotel is in business for a longer time, so some facilities may be worn down or out of service (for example, in our bathroom the shower did not provide the hydro massage function anymore).

Fine views of Lake Albano, Rooftop terrace for relaxation, Historical building charm
Parking near the hotel is an absolute nightmare!!! Finding the location is more complicated than it should be!!! Better signage or assistance would be a significant improvement!!!

Staying here was a great choice while exploring the amazing views around the lake. The staff was accommodating, especially in how they interacted with my kids during breakfast. The room had a lovely view, and while I noticed some minor things like a slight smell from the bathroom, the charm and character of the place more than made up for it. It was a lovely stay in a picturesque village.
